How We Feel Pain

Pain😬… we all hate it, but where does it come from? Pain is a complex physiological process that is signaled throughout the body by chemicals known as neurotransmitters. Pain receptors release these to communicate with other parts of the body. Neurotransmitters travel from the receptor to the spinal cord to the thalamus, a region of the brain that acts like a “sensory relay” in visual, auditory and somatosensory systems. Studies from the National Institute of Health have suggested that the thalamus mediates sensory-discriminative and affective-motivational pain components in our body.
